Ever had someone send a shady message and quickly delete it? Maybe you want to keep track of what happens in your Discord server when you’re offline. Either way, message logging can help. In this guide, we’ll show you how to use Carl-bot to log messages on your Discord server including deleted ones (as long as Carl-bot saw them first). It’s easy to set up and works great once everything is in place.

Step-by-Step: Enable Message Logging in Discord Using Carl-bot

Step 1: Invite Carl-bot to Your Server

  1. Go to https://carl.gg
  2. Click the “Invite” button on the top right.
  3. Select your Discord server from the dropdown.
  4. Click “Continue”.
  5. On the permissions screen, make sure these are checked:
    • Read Messages/View Channels
    • Send Messages
    • Manage Messages
    • Read Message History
    • Embed Links
  6. Click “Authorize” and complete the CAPTCHA.
  7. Once done, complete the start up process.

Step 2: Create a Logging Channel (Optional but Recommended)

  1. Open Discord and go to your server.
  2. Click the plus icon beside channel category to create a new channel.
  3. Select “Text” and name it #logs or something similar.
  4. Click “Create Channel”.
  5. Right-click on the new channel and select “Edit Channel”.
  6. Go to the Permissions tab.
  7. Under Roles/Members, add Carl-bot.
  8. Enable the following for Carl-bot:
    • View Channel
    • Send Messages
    • Embed Links
  9. Save changes.

Step 3: Set Up Logging on Carl-bot Dashboard

  1. Go back to https://carl.gg
  2. Click on “Dashboard” at the top.
  3. Select your server from the list.
  4. On the left sidebar, click “Logging”.
  5. Scroll down to the Channels Selection section.
  6. Find the row called Message log and click the dropdown beside it.
  7. Select the channel you created (e.g., #logs).
  8. Do the same for member log, voice log, etc if you want to log everything.
  9. Scroll down and click “Save Changes”.

Step 4: Enable Logging Events

  1. In the same Logging tab, find the Event Types section.
  2. Make sure these are toggled ON:
    • messageDelete
    • messageEdit
    • bulkMessageDelete
  3. Click “Save Changes” again.

Step 5: Test If It Works

  1. Send a message in any channel.
  2. Delete the message.
  3. Go to your #logs channel.
  4. You should see a log entry showing:
    • Who deleted the message
    • What the message said (if Carl-bot cached it)
    • The channel where it was deleted

Limitations to Know

  • Carl-bot can only log deleted messages if it saw them before deletion. If the user deletes the messages in milliseconds, there is a chance the message may not be logged by Carl bot. 
  • If the bot was offline, lacked permissions, or joined after the message was sent, it won’t show the deleted content.
  • Carl-bot cannot read or log messages from before it was invited.
  • It doesn’t log DMs or messages from channels where it doesn’t have access.
  • It follows Discord’s API limits, so it can’t do anything Discord itself doesn’t allow.

Setting up Carl-bot for message logging is a smart way to keep your Discord server in check. It gives you peace of mind when moderating and helps maintain transparency. Just remember its limitations, and you’ll be good to go.

How to Turn on Discord’s Pure Black Theme Right Now

If you’ve used Discord for a while, you know the “dark mode” has always been more of a dark gray in color. And if you ever wanted that true black look, you had to go out of your way — using custom CSS with Chrome extensions or installing third-party tools like BetterDiscord. We never got true dark mode in Discord – until now. But finally, Discord listened. In its latest update, they added a bunch of new customization options, and yes, that includes a real pure black theme. No more hacks or workarounds.

Here’s how to turn it on.

How to Turn Discord Theme Into Pure Black

The new customization features are available on desktop, mobile apps, and the web. However, the themes are different on mobile and desktop. 

Desktop and web have 4 themes – Light, Ash, Dark, and Onyx. Ash and Onyx are new themes, and Onyx is the pure black version. The mobile app has 3 themes – Light, Dark, and Midnight, with Midnight being the new pure black theme. That being said, here’s how to turn the Discord theme into pure black. 

On Desktop and Web: 

  1. Open the Discord desktop app or web app.
  2. Click on the gear icon at the bottom left to open Settings.
  3. Go to Appearance.
  4. Scroll to the Theme section.
  5. Select Onyx (the new full black mode).

On Mobile (Android and iOS): 

  1. Open the Discord app.
  2. Select the You tab and then tap on the Settings icon.
  3. Go to Appearance and select the Theme option.
  4. Finally, click on the Midnight option.

That’s it! Your Discord will now be completely black, perfect for OLED displays or just if you like the dark dark.

How to Boost a Discord Server

Boosting a server is super easy and you can boost any server. You don’t need to have any other additional permission to do so. However, you can only boost the server that you are part of. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Open Discord and go to the server you want to boost.
  2. Click on the server name (top-left corner) and select Server Boost.
  3. Click Boost This Server.
  4. If you have unused boosts, select them. Otherwise, you can purchase a boost.
  5. Follow the prompts, confirm, and your boost is applied!

Want to switch your boost to another server? You can! But there’s a 7-day cooldown period before you can transfer it. To transfer your boost from one server to another, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to User Settings > Server Boosts.
  2. Find the server with the boost and click Transfer Boost.
  3. Choose the new server and confirm.

To know who boosted the server and how many boosts a server has, you need to be an admin or you need to manage the server. Other users can only check the server boost level. 

When you boost any server, you get a Boosting Badge on your profile. This badge evolves over time as you keep boosting.

But if you cancel your boost or your Nitro subscription expires, you lose your streak. You have 72 hours to reapply your boost before the streak resets.

Want to know when your friend comes online? When does your team start streaming? By default, Discord does notify you when your friend’s status changes. But with the help of the FriendNotifications plugin from BetterDiscord, you can set up custom notifications for specific friends and statuses. Here’s how to get started.

Step 1: Install BetterDiscord

Now that the plugin is installed, you can configure it to send notifications when friends change their status. Click the Settings icon next to the plugin to access customization options.

In the Settings menu, you can fine-tune when and how you receive notifications:

  • Set when to receive notifications and how long they should stay on screen.
  • Customize what appears in the notification including the notification message. 
  • Set unique notification sounds to distinguish alerts more easily. 

You can choose which status changes trigger notifications for all your friends. For example, if you want to be notified when any of your friends start streaming, just enable the ‘Streaming’ option. You can set notifications for:

  • Online
  • Offline
  • Idle
  • Do Not Disturb (DND)
  • Playing
  • Streaming
  • Listening
  • Screensharing
  • Mobile
  • Custom

If you only want notifications for particular friends or specific statuses, you can do that too. Just select the friend and the status to receive precise alerts. If the person you want to track is not on your friend list, use the Add New Stranger option to input their username. This way, you’ll also get notified about their status changes.

With the FriendNotifications plugin, you can always stay updated on your friends’ Discord activity. This plugin only works on Discord’s Windows, Mac, and Linux apps—not on the web or mobile versions. If you want more control over your Discord experience, this plugin is a must-try.

One major difference compared to broadcast channels is that there is two-way communication in the Instagram community. This means that you can take part in the conversation by sending messages, unlike broadcast channels in the app.

All Instagram Community Chats will need to follow the company’s community standards to ensure it meets them. While there Is no clarity on when the feature will be released, it is likely to follow in the footsteps of Community Chats in Facebook Messenger.

According to Engadget quoting an Instagram, the feature is currently an “internal prototype” that is not being tested outside of the company. If the feature does arrive, it could be a hit just like WhatsApp communities.

Recently, I got addicted to the WordSeek puzzle on Discord. It might be a basic word game, but playing with friends amped up the experience. That eventually led us to try a bunch of puzzle games. Of all the games we’ve been playing for months now, here are the best ones we keep coming back to.

1. WordSeek

Let’s start with the game that got me into puzzle games. This game provides a basic 6×6 letter grid where each player needs to find 4-letter words either top to bottom, left to right, or even diagonally. There can be one or more words in each WordSeek game, and the player who finds the most words wins. The game also offers hints for a price that you can take without letting your friends know.

2. Connect 4

Connect 4 is a classic game, and you can play it on Discord too. If you’re unaware, the objective of the game is simple: It’s a two-player game where both players pick a color and place their coins in a 7×7 grid. How to Hide Disabled Emojis on Discord: Step-by-Step Guide

Discord allows servers to have custom emojis unique to each server. If you’re a Nitro user, you can use these emojis outside that server, both in DMs and other servers. That’s why they remain constantly visible in the emoji picker.

If you’re not a Nitro user, these emojis will be disabled outside their specific server, however, they still appear in the emoji picker, taking up space and making navigation difficult. You can hide disabled emojis by clicking the small triangle (chevron) next to the server’s name to collapse its emojis. You have to do it for all the servers, but that’s about it. 

Aside from this, Discord doesn’t offer a built-in option to hide disabled emojis. However, you can use the HideDisabledEmojis plugin from a third-party app called BetterDiscord to remove those greyed-out emojis from your picker. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use it.

Maybe they’re spamming, or being rude to everyone. Normally, you’d block them—but blocking can feel like a big move, and they’ll know they’ve been blocked. That’s where Discord’s new Ignore feature comes in.

What Is the Ignore Feature?

Discord has just introduced Ignore, a new way to filter out unwanted interactions without the drama of blocking someone. When you Ignore a user, their messages, notifications, profile, and activity will be hidden from your view. But unlike blocking, they won’t know they’ve been ignored. They can still send messages, see your profile, and interact with others in shared servers, but you just won’t see them unless you choose to.

This feature is perfect for situations where you don’t want direct confrontation but still need a way to avoid someone’s messages. It’s Discord’s way of giving users, especially teens, a more subtle tool for handling online interactions.

Ignore vs. Block: What’s the Difference?

Blocking on Discord is a clear-cut action. When you block someone, they cannot send you messages, see your profile, or interact with you in DMs. Plus, they get a visible message letting them know they can’t contact you.

Ignoring, on the other hand, is more discreet. Here’s what happens when you Ignore someone:

  • Their messages in DMs and servers are hidden, but they can still send them.
  • You won’t receive notifications from them.
  • Their profile and activity won’t show up in places like your friend list or activity feed.
  • They won’t know they’ve been ignored, so there’s no risk of confrontation.

Apart from that, you can still message each other and both of you can see the details of each other’s account. Think of it as a “soft block” where you’re filtering them out without making it obvious.

How to Ignore Someone on Discord

If you’re ready to use the Ignore feature, here’s how you do it:

  1. Click on their avatar or username in the DM or in the server. 
  2. Now click the three-dot menu – This is the same menu where you’d normally find the Block option.
  3. Select the Ignore option. 
  4. Finally, click Ignore in the pop-up to confirm. 

The process to ignore users is also same on the Android and iPhone’s Discord app. Apart from directly ignoring, Discord also provides this option immediately after you report someone on Discord. So you can report an user and ignore them at once. 

As mentioned, even after ignoring, there will be no change from their view. They can still see your details, messages and even can message you. However, their messages are hidden from you both on the DM and even on the servers. Incase if you prefer to see any specific message, you can unhide that specific message and see what you’ve missed. If you changed your mind later, you should be able to unignore the user from the same settings.
