What is Theft Protection Lock on Android? How to Enable and Use It

Losing your phone is more than just losing the device — it’s also giving someone access to your personal data, banking apps, photos, and more. Often, thieves accessing what’s inside the phone is a bigger loss than losing the device itself. This is where the new Theft Protection Lock feature comes in. Here’s what it is, how it works, and how to set it up.

What’s Theft Protection Lock and How to Enable It?

Theft Protection Lock uses AI to detect unusual actions, such as when someone quickly snatches the phone from your hand. If this happens, your phone will immediately lock itself to protect your data. This feature uses your smartphone’s motion sensors, as well as its Wi-Fi and smart device connections to detect if someone takes your phone abruptly and runs away.

Thieves often try to disable tracking features like Find My Device or remove your accounts to prevent locating the phone. However, once Theft Protection Lock is activated, your phone will be locked, making it harder for them to stop tracking.

The feature is available on all Android phones running Android 10 and above. To enable Theft Protection Lock:

  1. Open Settings on your Android phone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Google.
  3. Select All Services and tap Theft Protection.
  4. Toggle on Theft Detection Lock.

That’s it. Now, if someone snatches your phone, the device will immediately lock, protecting your data. They also cannot easily disable tracking, helping you regain access to your device.

Other Theft Protection Features on Android

Theft Protection Lock is effective when your phone is snatched suddenly, but it may not activate if someone quietly takes your phone when you leave it lying somewhere. There are also situations where the Theft Protection Lock might not detect the snatching action, leaving your phone vulnerable. This is why enabling other theft protection features is crucial to ensure your phone and data stay secure.

Offline Device Lock

Offline Device Lock ensures your phone is protected even if it goes offline. Thieves often disconnect a stolen phone from the internet to prevent it from being tracked. With Offline Device Lock enabled, your phone will automatically lock when it loses network connectivity, keeping your data secure and preventing unauthorized use. To enable it, go back to Theft Protection settings and toggle on Offline Device Lock.

Find My Device

Find My Device is a powerful tool to locate your lost or stolen phone. You can track your phone’s location, play a sound to help you find it, lock it, or erase all data remotely. This feature works through the Find My Device app or by visiting android.com/find. Enabling this feature gives you full control to manage your lost phone and protect your information.

Remote Lock

Remote Lock allows locking your phone from anywhere, using any device. If your phone is stolen, you can visit android.com/lock from another device, enter your verified phone number, and lock your phone remotely. This feature ensures that even if you lose physical access to your phone, you can still secure it and prevent others from using it. Keep in mind that your phone needs to be online for this feature to work.

Private Space (Android 15+ Only)

Private Space is a feature exclusive to Android 15 or newer versions. It allows you to secure sensitive apps or duplicate accounts within a hidden space on your phone. This area is protected with a separate PIN, making it difficult for anyone else to access important information, even if they manage to unlock your phone. To enable Private Space, go to your Security settings and set up the feature.

Android 15 introduces a few additional features that enhance theft protection:

  • Password or Biometric Authentication for Critical Settings: On Android 15, any changes to critical settings, such as Find My Device, require password or biometric authentication. This adds an extra layer of security by ensuring that only authorized users can modify key settings, further protecting your phone from unauthorized access.
  • Enhanced Factory Reset Protection: Factory reset protection makes it even harder for thieves to reset your device without your Google account credentials. This significantly reduces the resale value of a stolen device and helps protect your data. Enhanced factory reset protection is available only on Android 15 devices and is enabled by default.
  • Lock After Failed Login Attempts: Multiple failed login attempts will trigger a phone lock on Android 15. This feature helps prevent thieves from trying to guess your password and ensures the phone remains locked if unauthorized access is attempted.

Protect Your Android From Theft

The Theft Protection Lock secures your phone when it is snatched, helping keep your data safe. However, it should also enable the internet automatically, allowing you to locate the phone through Find My Device.

There may be instances when the gesture is not detected, and the phone doesn’t lock. In such cases, you can manually lock it using the Remote Lock option. If the thief takes your phone out of network coverage, Offline Lock ensures the phone remains secured. Find My Device also provides features to ring your phone or erase its data remotely.

Android 15 introduces additional features, such as Private Space, which offers an extra layer of security for your data, even if the thief manages to unlock the phone.

9 Fixes for Find My Not Working on iPhone

Find My is a handy add-on to track your Apple devices on the go. Find My works for your Apple family members and AirTag items, too. The service failing to show your Apple devices can confuse you. Here are the best ways to fix Find My not working on your iPhone or iPad.

Why Isn’t Find My Working

Find My may not work due to several reasons on your iPhone.

  • Find My feature is not active on your iPhone.
  • The iPhone has been turned off (before iOS 15.2).
  • You are using a different Apple ID.
  • Location sharing is turned off on your family member’s device.
  • Incorrect time and date.
  • Outdated iOS or iPadOS software.
  • Poor network connectivity on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Dead AirTag battery or isolated location for your item.

As expected, most tricks work only when your device is accessible. You can make the necessary tweaks below and ensure Find My works as expected in unfortunate situations. Without further ado, let’s get started.

1. Enable Find My

You should enable Find My on your Apple device to track it via iCloud web or other devices using the same Apple ID.

1. Open Settings on iPhone. Go to your Apple ID.

2. Scroll to Find My.

3. Tap Find My iPhone. Enable the Find My iPhone, Find My network, and Send Last Location toggles from the following menu.

2. Charge Your Device

Find My should still locate your device if your device is turned off or low on power. Apple added the function following the iOS 15.2 version. However, it’s still a good idea to keep your device fully charged to avoid such errors.

3. Check Apple ID

When you lose your iPhone, log in to iCloud web and use the same Apple ID as your main device to locate the lost device via the Find My network. If you use another Apple ID, the Find My service can’t work as expected.

4. Check Location Services

You should enable location services on your iPhone for precise tracking via the Find My network. Follow the steps below to make changes.

1. Open Settings on your iPhone and scroll to Privacy & Security.

2. Select Location Services. Enable the toggle from the following menu.

5. Check Network Connection

Your iPhone relies on the internet or Bluetooth to send its location to the Find My network. You need to troubleshoot the network connection on your iPhone or iPad and try again.

You can enable Airplane mode on your iPhone and disable it after some time to reset the network. If network issues persist on your iPhone, reset network settings.

6. Check Date and Time Settings

Incorrect date and time settings on your iPhone can cause issues with the Find My service. You should fix your date and time on your iPhone or iPad and try tracking it via another device.

1. Launch Settings on your iPhone and scroll to General.

2. Select Date & Time.

Check your device’s time zone. You can also enable the Set Automatically toggle.

7. AirTag Battery

AirTag is a handy little tracker to keep a close watch on your little ones, pets and track your wallets, keys, and other essentials. AirTag uses a standard CR2032 battery cell.

When your AirTag runs low on battery, you see a low battery message in the Find My app. You can’t track your devices if the AirTag battery is dead.

AirTag uses a network of nearby Apple devices to update its location on the Find My network. If your device is lost in a remote area, the device can’t send its whereabouts on Find My.

8. Enable Location Sharing on Your Family Member’s Device

Find My is quite useful for parents. You can check your little one’s whereabouts right from your iPhone. However, you need to add them to Apple Family and enable location sharing on their devices.

1. Launch Settings on your iPhone and select Family. Tap on your family member and check location sharing status on their phone.

2. Pick up your family member’s iPhone and head to Settings.

3. Select Family and tap on their profile.

4. Tap Location Sharing and share their location with you.

You are all set to track your family members via the Find My network.

9. Update iOS

An outdated iOS version can cause issues with the Find My function. Let’s update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version.

1. Open Settings on your iPhone and scroll to General.

2. Select Software Update and install the latest iOS build on your phone.

Find Your Lost Devices in No Time

Find My not working on iPhone can confuse you. When you get back access to your iPhone, use the tricks above to track your device in real-time. If you still can’t locate your iPhone, contact your carrier. You should also report device theft to the local authorities.

If your AirTag device is lost in a remote area, your chances of finding it via Find My network are slim.

6 Fixes for Google Find My Device Not Working on Android

Your Android phone contains a wealth of data and personal information about you. So, if you ever misplace it, or, even worse, if it gets stolen, you may need assistance from Google’s Find My Device feature to track, lock, and erase your device remotely. While it is great for locating your lost or stolen Android phone, it may not be of any use if it’s not set up properly. Here are a few tips that should get Google Find My Device working on your Android.

1. Enable Find My Device

Before you try anything else, it’s a good idea to ensure that the Find My Device feature is enabled on your Android. Here’s how to check.

1. Open the Settings app and scroll down to tap on Security

Security Settings on Android

2. Tap on Find My Device and enable the toggle in the following menu.

Enable Find My Device on Android

2. Enable Location Services

As you may already know, the Find My Device feature uses your Android phone’s location services to keep track of it. If you have turned off location services on your Android, you won’t be able to locate or ring it using Google Find My Device.

To enable location services on your Android, use these steps:

1. Open the Settings app on your phone and tap Location. Then, enable the toggle next to Use location.

Enable Location on Android

2. Tap on Google Location Accuracy. Toggle on the switch next to Improve Location Accuracy. This will allow your phone to use nearby Wi-Fi, mobile networks, and sensors to track its location more precisely.

Improve Location Accuracy on Android

3. Ensure Your Android Is Connected to the Internet

Enabling location services may not be of much help if your Android device is not connected to the internet and cannot share its location with Google servers. If that’s the case, you may encounter the “Can’t reach device” error while using Google Find My Device.

Can't Reach Device Error in Google Find My Device

To use the Find My Device feature, your phone must be connected to mobile data or a Wi-Fi network. Once your Android has internet access, you can use Find My Device to locate and secure it.

4. Use the Same Google Account as on Android

Is your Android phone not showing up in Google Find My Device? That could happen if you are using a different Google account than the one on your phone.

To check the Google account you are using on your Android, open the Settings app and tap on Accounts. If you don’t see your Google account on the list, tap the Add account option and sign in with your credentials.

Add Account on Android

Now head to the Google Find My Device website or download the app on another device, sign in with the same Google account as the one on your phone, and see if your phone is listed.

Google Find My Device Website

5. Unhide Your Device in Google Play

Another reason why Find My Device may not work is if you have previously hidden your Android phone from the Google Play website. To fix this, you need to unhide your phone in Google Play using these steps:

1. Open up a browser on your computer and head to the Google Play website. Sign into your Google account if you haven’t already.

2. Click the profile picture in the top right corner and select Library & devices.

Library and Devices on Google Play Website

3. Switch to the Devices tab and make sure the checkbox next to your device is ticked.

Devices on Google Play Website

Once you unhide your device, it should show up in the Find My Device app and website.

6. Turn Off Battery Saver

Battery optimization features, particularly on Android phones with custom skins, can sometimes prevent Google Find My Device from tracking the device’s location and cause problems. So, if the Google Find My Device does not work even after applying the above tips, it’s best to turn off the battery saver feature on your phone.

Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Quick Settings panel and tap the Battery Saver icon to turn it off. After that, check if Find My Device is working.

Disable Battery Saver on Android

Never Lose Sight of Your Android

Applying the above tips should get Google Find My Device working again on your Android. You should then be able to track and secure your Android phone remotely if the need arises. However, if it is already too late and you have lost your phone, your best option is to contact your carrier.

What Android Phone Model Number and Name Do I Have

Wondering what Android phone model you own? Whether you want to fix some issue with your Android phone or you want to sell it secondhand, knowing your Android phone’s model name and number is important. With the sheer number of Android phones released every year from different manufacturers with their own customized OS, it can be hard to find even simple things. No matter what Android phone you are using, we will show you how to find your Android phone’s model number and name.

Difference Between Android Phone’s Model Name and Number

In case you are wondering what is the difference between an Android phone’s model name and model number, you are not alone. The name is nothing but the name of the product like Samsung Galaxy S22, Pixel 6a, etc. It is commonly used in marketing and something many people already know.

These companies also assign a model number to every model they release. In most cases, each Android phone model is assigned one number. But in some cases, the model number changes according to the specifications like chipset, RAM, storage, carrier, country, etc. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S21 model has around 7 model numbers depending on the chipset, country, and the carrier selling the device. So the model number of your device is more precise and important than simply knowing the model name.

Pro Tip: Are you selling your Android phone or buying one? Learn how to safely transfer Google Authenticator codes to a new phone.

Before Getting Started

There are actually a couple of ways you can find the model name and number of your Android phone without getting too technical.

1. Check the box your Android phone arrived in. You should find the model name written all around the package. The model number should be printed on the sticker placed at the bottom of the box. On some boxes, the sticker may be found on the side. This should be enough to help you find the model name and the number of your Android phone. But some OEM manufacturers like Redmi do not print model numbers on the stickers of some of their models.

2. Check the backside of your phone. Though the practice of printing the model number on the back of a phone has been discontinued over the years, you should be able to find it on most old devices. Some manufacturers like Samsung, Nothing, etc. still print the model number on the back of the phone for a few models.

Model number on the back of the Android phone

3. You can also try revisiting the shopping history of the e-commerce site you purchased your Android phone. You should be able to find your Android phone’s model name and model number in the product description.

Still don’t know what Android phone model or number your device is? There are other ways to answer this question. Read along.

How to Know What Android Phone Model I Have

Let’s start with the obvious

1. Check From the Android Settings

You will find both the model name and the model number of your Android smartphone in the Settings app itself. But because every Android manufacturer has their own version of the Settings app, the process is a bit different for different phones. But do not worry, we have covered multiple ways so there is something for everyone irrespective of the make and model of your Android smartphone.

1. Open the Settings app on your Android phone from the app drawer.

2. Now scroll down and select the About phone or About device option.

About phone option on Android Settings

3. Here you should find the Device name option which should have the model name by default. But this can be edited, so if the owner has changed the name of the device, you will not see the model name here.

Device name on Android settings

4. But you can check the Model number of the Android phone here on phones from Samsung, Oppo, Realme, Nothing, etc.

Model name on Android Settings

5. Some manufacturers hide the model number even deeper. On Pixel phones, you will find the model number hidden under the Regulatory labels option. Other manufacturers hide it under the Hardware info or Status option.

6. You should be able to find the model number from Settings. Now simply Google that model number to find the model name of your phone.

2. Third-Party Apps

If you are not able to find your Android phone’s model number from Settings, try using third-party system info apps.

1. Open the Play Store, search and download the CPU-Z app.

2. Once installed, open the app and select the Device tab.

3. You should find the model number of your device beside the Model heading.

4. Now search for that model number on Google to find the model name of the Android phone.

3. Find With IMEI

If your phone isn’t switching on, nor the box of the phone has the model number, then your best bet is to use the IMEI number.

1. First you need to find the IMEI number of your Android phone. If you can switch on the phone, open the phone app and dial *#06# to check your IMEI number. You will also find the IMEI number on the phone’s backside or the box it came in.

2. If you have logged in with your Google account on that device, open Find my device and select your phone. Here you should find the model name. Now click on the (i) icon beside the name, and it will reveal the IMEI number.

3. Now go to IMEI check website, enter the IMEI number of your Android phone, and click on the Check IMEI button.

4. It should show your model number in a pop-up window.

My Android Phone’s Model Name and Number

Previously, it was possible to remove the Android phone’s battery where you would find the model number inside. In case you have an old phone with a removable battery, you can try that too. But these days, phones with removable batteries are rare or even non-existent. Settings, System Info apps, and IMEI Checker are your best bet to find the model name and number of your Android smartphone. In case none of the options are working for you, call or visit the service center as a last resort.

How to Use Samsung Galaxy Watch to Find My Phone and Vice Versa

So you kept your Galaxy phone or Watch somewhere and forgot? Well, fear not. You can easily find your Galaxy phone using your Galaxy Watch or use your Galaxy phone to find your Galaxy Watch. Samsung’s Find My Mobile and Find My Watch features are baked into the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Wearable app. But they are quite limited in functionality as they cannot show the device location. So we can also use Google’s Find My Device app to take it one step further. Here’s how to use the Samsung Galaxy Watch to find your Galaxy Phone and also use your Samsung Galaxy phone to find the Samsung Galaxy Watch.

Using Samsung Galaxy Watch to Find Phone

First of all, this feature is not meant to find your lost phone. Instead, it is only meant to find the phone that you have misplaced in the same room or house, for example. Also, it only works when your phone and the watch are linked to each other via Bluetooth. To find the phone’s location and other details, you need to use Google’s Find My Device app which we have covered below.

1. On the homepage of the Galaxy Watch, swipe up and tap on the gear icon to open the Settings app.

Opening Setting in Galaxy watch

2. Now open Connections > Bluetooth and make sure it is enabled.

Enabling Bluetooth on Galaxy Watch

3. You won’t see your phone in the Bluetooth devices list when connected like on another device on your Galaxy Watch.

No devices found on Galaxy Watch Bluetooth

4. To make sure that your phone is connected to your watch, get back to your homepage. Here if you see the disconnected icon at the top of the page, it means your phone is not connected to your watch and the feature may not work.

Galaxy Watch connected to phone and not connected to phone

5. If there is no icon at the top, scroll down to open quick settings and navigate to the Find My Phone icon. If you don’t find that icon, tap on the Plus icon and add the Find My Phone to your quick settings. Alternatively, you can also open the Find the Phone app from the app drawer.

Find my phone option on Galaxy Watch

6. In the Find My Phone app, tap on the Start button. This will ring your phone making it easier to find it.

Using Google Find My Device on Galaxy Watch to Find Phone

Unlike Samsung’s Find My Phone, Google’s Find My Device also works when both devices are not connected via Bluetooth. Also, it can ring the smartphone, track its location, add a ping remotely, and also erase all data.

If you already have your phone with you, then you can sideload the Find My Device app on the Galaxy Watch.

1. Open android.com/find on the Samsung Internet browser or open the sideload Find My Device app on your Galaxy Watch. Make sure you are logged in to the same Google account that you used on the phone.

Opening Samsung Internet on Galaxy Watch

2. Here, you should find all the devices that you have logged in with the same Google account. Select the device that you want to find.

3. Once selected, you can scroll down to check the last location of that device in a map view.

Find my device on Galaxy Watch

4. Scrolling down even further shows the battery percentage of the device. You can Play Sound and Secure Device by adding an additional lock to access the phone. Most importantly, you can use Erase Device option to format the phone and delete all valuable, sensitive data.

Securing phone from Galaxy Watch with find my device

However, nothing will work if your phone is not connected to the internet. Nonetheless, all pending actions will be executed as soon as the phone connects to the internet. It will lock the device if you choose to secure it and then delete all data if you choose to erase it. It will also update the last seen location of the device so you can trace it.

Using Android Phone to Find Samsung Galaxy Watch

Again, the phone and watch have to be connected via Bluetooth. Also, you cannot use this to find Watch’s location or format it. For that, you need to sideload Google’s Find My Device app which we have covered below.

1. Open the quick setting panel on your phone and make sure that it is connected to the watch via Bluetooth. If connected, you should see the name of the watch here. If not, this feature will not be work.

Connecting to Galaxy Watch via bluettoth

2. Now open Galaxy Wearable app on your phone and select the Find My Watch option.

3. On the Find My Watch page, tap on the Start button to ring your Galaxy Watch.

Find my watch feature on Galaxy Wearable app

4. Samsung Galaxy Watch doesn’t have any lock screen security unlike Galaxy phones. So that’s a security issue. However, with the help of the Galaxy wearable app, you can secure it remotely. Tap on the Set security option on the same page and on the next, you can Lock watch or Reset watch.

Using Google’s Find My Device App on Phone to Find Galaxy Watch

You have to use your Google account to log in to your Galaxy Watch as it is also a Wear OS device. So there is no prior setup required which is a good thing.

1. Open Find My Device app on your Android phone or go to android.com/find in the browser.

2. Here select your watch from the devices bar.

3. Now you should see the last seen location of your watch.

Find my device app

4. At the bottom, there is an option to force your watch to make a sound and also secure the same by adding a pin to it. You can even erase watch’s data.

securing and erasing data from find my device app on Android

Again, none of these features will work if your watch is not connected to the internet or the location option is turned off. However, it will automatically initiate the action when the device accesses the internet.

Find My Phone/Watch

Samsung’s Find My Watch and Find My Phone only works when the devices are connected to each other. But you can also use it to find lost Galaxy Buds and other Samsung gadgets. But, Google’s Find My Device is more reliable even for the Galaxy Watch and your Galaxy phone. In fact, if you use Google Home, you can just ask Google Assistant to find your devices.

Is There a Way to Find Lost S-Pen

I know you might be worried about losing the S Pen. And wondering, “How do I find my S Pen”? First, calm down and take a deep breath. Things might not be as scary as they seem right now. Let’s get straight to find the answer and locate the missing S Pen.

How to Find Lost S Pen

Without sugarcoating my words, let me put this straight. Samsung doesn’t offer any way to know the exact location of your missing S Pen unless you own an S Pen Pro (know how to find it in the next section). That means you cannot ping it, make it vibrate, or pinpoint the last location.

However, Samsung knows that it’s easy to lose S Pen and that’s why they provide a setting that alerts you when you move away from the S Pen. You must be thinking what’s the use now, I have already lost the S Pen. The answer is that the same setting lets you view the last date and time you detached the S Pen from your phone. Trust me even that tiny bit of information is quite useful in locating the missing S Pen.

That’s because you might be assuming that you have lost the S Pen in a market or a mall but when it’s actually under your couch or bed. The last disconnected time can help you in finding the S Pen in such situations. The only thing is that you must remember and figure out where you were at that particular time.

How to See the Time When S Pen Was Detached

1. Open the Settings app on your Samsung Galaxy phone.

2. Go to Advanced features > S Pen.

3. Look for Warn if S Pen is left behind or Pen proximity alert setting. You will see the last removed date and time if the S Pen is outside of your phone. Use that as a reference point to find the missing S Pen. Ask yourself, “What were you doing at that time?” or “Where were you at that time”?

Note: You will not see the time if S Pen is inside your phone.

If you find your S Pen, please make sure to enable the Warn if S Pen is left behind to avoid losing the S Pen again in the future.

How to Find Lost S Pen Pro

Unlike other S Pens, the S Pen Pro that works on Galaxy Fold 3 can easily be tracked. You must use the SmartThings app to find the S Pen Pro. The only requirement is that you must have registered the S Pen Pro in the SmartThings app earlier before losing it. If you have done so, follow these steps to track the pen:

1. Open the Samsung SmartThings app on your phone.

2. Tap on Device at the bottom and select the registered S Pen Pro.

Samsung S Pen Smart Things

3. Tap on Find device and you will see a map showing the location of your S Pen Pro.
