Accidentally Deleted Text? Gboard’s New Undo Button Has You Covered

  • Gboard is finally rolling out an undo/redo feature in the beta version.
  • You can restore accidentally deleted text or revert unwanted edits without having to retype.
  • Currently in beta (version 14.9.06.x), the undo/redo buttons can be added to the Gboard shortcut row for quick access.

For years, desktop users have enjoyed a simple yet powerful keyboard shortcut (Ctrl/Cmd +Z and Ctrl/Cmd+Y) to undo and redo typing mistakes. Now, that same convenience is coming to Gboard. Google is finally rolling out undo/redo buttons to Gboard keyboard, making it easier to correct typos and accidental deletions while typing.

How Gboard’s Undo/Redo Works

When you delete a text accidentally, Gboard temporarily stores that deleted text in its memory. You can recover that deleted text by tapping the Undo button that appears in the suggestion strip. If you don’t see it, you have to customize your Gboard toolbar to add the Undo shortcut, as seen in screenshots shared by 9to5Google. Also, if you delete a whole word or a larger chunk of text, then a single tap will restore the entire selection.

Alongside the Undo button, you will see a Redo button that can bring back any text you’ve undone or deleted. These buttons can be dragged and pinned to the suggestion strip for faster access. Gboard temporarily stores your editing history so you can undo multiple actions in sequence.

Imagine you’re typing quickly on your phone and accidentally hit the wrong key or mistakenly tap the autocorrect suggestion. You might end up with a word or phrase completely different from what you intended. A single change and change the entire meaning of the word or what you wanted to say. Gboard’s undo and redo feature will let you instantly revert these mistakes, correcting typos and unwanted autocorrect changes with a tap.

Note: Keep in mind that Gboard only remembers your recent edits within the current app session. Closing the app will clear this memory.

How to Get Undo/Redo on Your Gboard

  • You can access the undo/redo feature by enrolling in the Gboard beta program through the Google Play Store. Open app page on Play Store and tap on Join in beta program section.
  • You can sideload the beta APK from APK Mirror. However, installing it this way does not guarantee access to the undo/redo feature.
  • Wait for the feature to roll out to the stable version and update the app when available.

Note that even with the beta version installed (either through the Play Store or sideloading), the undo/redo feature might not be immediately available. Google uses staged rollouts, enabling features for select users first. It will eventually be available to all the users in the stable Gboard release.

This new undo/redo feature is a great addition to Gboard for Android users. Stay tuned for its official release to all users.

7 New Hidden Window Keyboard Shortcuts You Never Heard Of

People use Windows keyboard shortcuts all the time but there are so many of them, it is difficult to keep track of them all. Plus, frequent updates and changes in the UI/UX introduce new shortcuts that are often buried deep. Here are some hidden but useful Windows keyboard shortcuts you may not have heard of.

1. Switch Between Your Sound Output Devices Quickly

Use the shortcut Windows + Ctrl + V to easily switch between your output devices using this shortcut without actually going to settings and searching for that option taking too much time.

For example, if you are watching a video on YouTube and want to show one part of that video to your friend without disconnecting your headphones/earbuds. Press Windows+ Ctrl + V and it will open the menu on the right to switch to your preferred sound output device.

2. Select and Record Any Part of the Screen

You can use Windows + Shift + R keyboard shortcut to select and directly start recording any part of the screen on your Windows. Also, you get the option to mute system audio and record from your mic instead.

This is useful in situations where you want to record just the selected part of your game or any other screen and you don’t want to show everything on the screen. It could be for privacy or security reasons like you don’t want to show all open tabs, or username for example.

3. Get Live Captions of any Video Using AI

Use Windows + Ctrl + L keyboard shortcut while watching a video and your Windows system will caption it on the device using AI. No data leaves your PC.

Live captions work across Windows 11 OS, making it seamless to read captions while working in other apps. Captions can be generated for audio even when you are disconnected from the internet. Yup.

You can personalize how captions are displayed, set the position where you want the captions to appear, and include microphone audio to make in-person conversations easier in the Preferences option.

4. Set Any Image as Wallpaper Within a Second

Simply by pressing Ctrl + B, you can set any image anywhere on your Windows PC as wallpaper. It saves a lot of time in comparison to setting up a wallpaper manually. No need to save the image first and then use the right-click menu.

5. Open Emoji Keyboard and Clipboard Instantly Anywhere

Press WINDOWS + . (period) or WINDOWS + ; (semicolon) to open the emoji keyboard where you can access all different types of emojis instantly over any screen.

You can also press Windows + V to access the clipboard history (appears in the same emoji menu) instantly.

6. Enhance Productivity With Voice Typing

Press Windows + H to open dictation/voice typing anywhere on your screen so that you can instantly write what’s on your mind using just your voice. Go handsfree instantly.

This is a great feature for writing long texts and messages on your Windows computer. To save time, select the text box you want to write and use this shortcut.

7. Switch Browser Tabs Without Moving Your Cursor

You can easily switch tabs by double pressing the F6 key and navigating to different tabs using the arrow keys on your keyboard without actually moving your cursor to the desired tab. No need to touch the mouse.

This will help you quickly switch between open tabs and work more productively when multiple tabs are open on your browser.

Note: This only works on Windows (not on Mac even if you are using the same browser).

And that’s it, folks.

How to Set Custom Keyboard Shortcut for Window Snapping/Tiling on Mac

After many years of waiting, macOS has finally introduced native window snapping with macOS Sequoia. This means you no longer need to install apps like Rectangle or Magnet. However, the default shortcuts don’t work properly, often conflict with keyboard shortcuts of other installed apps, and there isn’t a straightforward way to change them. In this article, we’ll explore how you can set custom keyboard shortcuts for window snapping on your Mac running Sequoia or higher.

Native Window Snapping on Mac

There are 3 ways to snap windows on the Mac.

  1. Drag the window to the corner to snap the window in its place
  2. Hold Option key and drag the window to its position to snap into its place
  3. Finally, you can use keyboard shortcuts to snap the window according to the shortcut.

The default keyboard shortcuts are:

  • Left: Control + Globe + ←
  • Right: Control + Globe + →
  • Top: Control + Globe + ↑
  • Bottom: Control + Globe + ↓

The issue is the same keyboard shortcut is used for different purposes on different apps. For example, Chrome uses the Left keyboard shortcut to scroll the webpage to the top. Right shortcut to scroll to the bottom. Top and bottom shortcuts to switch between tabs. So window snapping does not work properly when you are on such apps. Also, you can see that there’s no shortcut to fill the entire screen.

Set Custom Keyboard Shortcuts to Snap Windows on Mac

To change the keyboard shortcuts for snapping windows on Mac

  1. Go to System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > App Shortcuts.
  2. Click on All Applications and add a new shortcut by clicking the plus icon.
  3. Here, manually type the position name. For example, to change the Left shortcut, type Left. Here are all the positions you can type and configure. These are case-sensitive or the required shortcut will not be assigned properly, so make sure to enter them exactly.
    • Left
    • Right
    • Top
    • Bottom
    • Fill
    • Top Left
    • Top Right
    • Bottom Left
    • Bottom Right
  4. Once entered, assign a keyboard shortcut for the entered position and click on Done.

That’s it, the keyboard shortcut has been assigned for window snapping. You can change all the remaining positions similarly.

How to Remove Frequently Used Emojis on iPhone and iPad

You must’ve accidentally sent the wrong emoji to a client, a colleague, or a relative at least once. That’s because the emoji keyboard on iPhone and iPad holds all the frequently used emojis first for quick access. While there’s no direct way to remove a single emoji from that stack, you can remove all of them together. Here’s how you can remove frequently used emojis on iPhone and iPad.

Things to Know Before Removing Frequently Used Emojis

The frequenly used emojis appear on the left side of the emoji keyboard. As noted earlier, you can’t delete a single emoji from the recent and frequently used emojis list. You’ll need to delete the entire list. Thankfully, it doesn’t affect the Memoji stickers list besides suggested emojis.

To remove frequently used emojis on iphone, you need to reset the Keyboard Dictionary. That deletes all the custom words and shortcuts you’ve typed on the keyboard on your iPhone or iPad. You’ll also need to train the keyboard on iPhone or iPad to adjust the Auto-correction and word prediction features again. You can train the keyboard on iPhone and sync the changes using iCloud to iPad.

Luckily, resetting the Keyboard Dictionary for the iOS keyboard won’t affect other software keyboards on your iPhone, like Gboard.

Note: The following solution applies to iPhone with iOS 15 and later and iPad with iPadOS 15 and later.

Remove Frequently Used Emojis on iPhone and iPad

The only option to clear the emojis from the keyboard is to reset its dictionary on your iPhone and iPad. Unfortunately, iOS and iPadOS don’t offer any specific settings just for emojis or removing a particular one from the emoji keyboard.

1. Open the Settings app on iPhone and iPad and navigate to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone section (General > Transfer or Reset iPad for iPad).
2. Tap on Reset at the bottom and select Reset Keyboard Dictionary. You’ll need to enter the passcode for your iPhone or iPad.
3. Tap on Reset Dictionary pop-up to remove all the frequently used emojis, shortcuts, and custom words.

Frequently Used Gets Default Emojis

After following the above method, you will continue to see the Frequently Used section when you bring up the emoji keyboard on your iPhone and iPad. The difference is that you’ll see a pre-populated or Apple’s default list of emojis appearing under the Frequently Used section. After that, a new frequently used emoji will continue to take the top-left spot on the emoji keyboard and the others will get pushed down further. Naturally, some of those emojis will stay there based on how frequently you use them across messages, notes, emails, and browsers on iPhone and iPad.

How to Use Custom Mouse and Keyboard Shortcuts on Chromebook

Google allows you to customize your mouse buttons and keyboard shortcuts on Chromebooks. If you frequently take screenshots, you might have set a mouse button as a trigging shortcut. That’s because Chromebooks lack default keyboard shortcuts for media controls like play, pause, and skip tracks. Luckily, that’s changed. You can add keyboard shortcuts for a variety of actions, including media playback controls. Here’s how you can customize mouse buttons and keyboard shortcuts on Chromebook.

Requires ChromeOS 123 Version or Above

To begin customizing your Chromebook’s keyboard shortcuts or mouse buttons, ensure your device runs ChromeOS 123 version or later. If you’re on an older ChromeOS version, you can still enable the feature via Chrome Flags. Here’s how:

Type the following URL into your Chrome browser’s address bar:

chrome://flags

On the Chrome Flags window, type the following string in the search bar to enable keyboard shortcut customization. Toggle the flag from default to enabled.

#enable-shortcut-customization

For Mouse button customization, type this string in the search bar and toggle the flag from default to enabled.

#enable-peripheral-customization

After that, click Restart at the bottom to apply changes. These flags enable the features even on older versions of ChromeOS.

Customize Keyboard Shortcuts on Chromebook

If you want to use keyboard shortcuts for specific actions, you can do that to. Here’s how you can customize keyboard shortcuts:

1. On your Chromebook, go to Settings > Device > Keyboard and input and click on View keyboard shortcuts.

2. It opens a window with all the keyboard shortcuts. Alternatively, you can also press Search Key + Ctrl + S to open the same window.

3. To edit a shortcut, click the pencil icon next to it, then click Add shortcut. Press your a key combination and click Done to save.

4. To delete any shortcut, click on the Delete icon next to the shortcut. You also have the Restore defaults option if you want to go back to the default settings for any action.

To reset all shortcuts, click the Reset all shortcuts button on the bottom left of the Key shortcuts window. There are a few things to remember when customizing the keyboard shortcuts:

  • You can’t modify shortcuts with a Lock icon beside them.
  • Use the shortcut with the search icon to avoid conflicts with other systems and browser shortcuts. While it’s not mandatory, it simplifies your experience.
  • You cannot set top row keys, any single letter, or modifier Key as a shortcut. It has to be a combination of at least 2 keys.
  • You can add up to 5 shortcuts for each action.
  • It will show you a warning when trying to set the same shortcut already assigned to another function. However, you can press the shortcut again to set it to the new function and remove it from the old.

Customize Mouse Buttons on Chromebook

Here’s how to customize the mouse buttons:

1. Connect your mouse (wired or wireless) to the Chromebook.
2. Open the Settings app, then go to Device > Mouse.
3. Select Customize mouse buttons.
4. On the customization page, click on the mouse button you want to customize.
5. That button option will appear on the screen, click on the drop-down beside it to assign a function.

There are various functions to choose from like the screenshot capture, media play/pause, volume control, overview page, emoji picker, and more. You can also assign a keyboard shortcut if the desired function is not listed.

2 Apps to Use Phone as Keyboard and Mouse on Windows and macOS

Imagine you need to control the PC or TV monitor, but don’t have a mouse around. Luckily, there are quite a few apps that can turn your phone (Android and iPhone) into a computer mouse, keyboard, and media remote controller on Windows or macOS. However, not all such apps are built the same. So, I tested all the popular apps on Windows or macOS, Android, and iOS. Here’s what I found.

Note: Both the apps mentioned support Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux.

1. For Quick, Free, Temporary Usage – KDE Connect

While traveling to a remote area, you may take your laptop but not carry your mouse. Instead of buying one locally or ordering online, you can turn your phone into a mouse.

KDE Connect will let you use your phone as a mouse or keyboard. However, I found that the mouse movements seem jittery. But it’s not a deal breaker and functions as you want. No false clicks. Also, the play/pause buttons worked fine on YouTube. However, I could only pause, not play again with Netflix on my Windows 11 PC. Face no such issues with Netfli on my MacBook.

Pros:

  • Ads-free, open-source, and free
  • Easy to setup and use
  • Media controls
  • Send messages and transfer files
  • Share clipboard
  • Give presentations

Cons:

  • Mouse movements are a little finicky
  • Both devices need to be on the same network

2. Long-Term Usage (One-Time Purchase) – Unified Remote

Using a massive screen with a PC has its perks, but you’ll need a remote to browse media and stream content often. Some smart users found a way to use a piece of hardware to connect with Google Home/Assistant and use voice commands to control their PC.

Luckily, you don’t need to buy it. You can use Unified Remote on your phone as a mouse, keyboard, or media controller for the foreseeable future. The free version is good enough for many, but the freemium really shines. It costs $4.99 (one-time purchase) and offers unique features in a neat interface.

I was blown away by the sheer number of remotes it offers. It offers over 100 dedicated remotes for apps including VLC, one to access PC’s power and Start menu, popular streaming apps like Prime, browsers like Chrome, and Twitch. I even saw one for Minecraft. Not enough? You can buy the Pro version of the app and create a custom remote.

I tested it using my iPhone and Windows to see how it functions cross-platform and was happy to see the mouse movement was super smooth, unlike with KDE Connect.

Pros:

  • Remote for 100s of apps + custom remotes
  • Easy to setup and use
  • Password protection
  • Media control
  • File manager
  • Tasker integration
  • Android Wear support
  • IR, NFC, and Voice control support

Cons:

  • Both devices should be on the same network

Other Options – Honorary Mentions

There are some other apps in this category too but they are not for everyone. You may consider and have a look if it suits your specific needs.

Also Read: You can also use your PC’s mouse to control your Android phone.

For Gamers – PC Remote

Only app in the list that doesn’t supports macOS but oddly has an iOS app.

If you are a gamer, this app turns your smartphone into a remote control for gaming and streaming on PC. You can also use it as a mouse and keyboard for PC, but it was not designed for just that. It offers different layouts for games and you can also create your own, transfer files, project your phone’s screen onto PC, and more.

Subscription begins at $2 per month and removes ads, allows adjusting touchpad sensitivity, buttons, and gestures.

Talking about ads, they are annoying and frequent in the free version taking up half the screen sometimes.

Download: PC Remote from Monect

Better Interface But Slightly Higher Cost – Remote Mouse

Offers a better interface, but for a higher price compared to Unified Remote. There is a subscription model that starts at $1.49 per month, charges $0.99 to remove ads, and recently added a lifetime plan that costs $18.99. So how does it look? Like this:

Necessary features like a power options menu, an app launcher/switcher, and copy-paste are present. If money is not a factor and you don’t fancy so many dedicated remotes for every app, I would recommend Remote Mouse over Unified Remote just for the awesome experience.

5 Fixes for Keyboard and Mouse Not Working on PS5

Although a PlayStation controller offers a remarkable gaming experience, there are certain games where the precision and speed of a keyboard and mouse combo can take your gameplay to the next level. But what if your wired or wireless mouse and keyboard stop working on your PS5? Whether your PS5 fails to detect your keyboard and mouse or won’t respond even after detecting them, this guide will help fix all the issues. So, let’s start.

1. Disconnect and Reconnect Your Keyboard and Mouse

Connectivity issues can often cause your mouse or keyboard to stop working on your PS5. Hence, disconnect your mouse and keyboard from the PS5 and reconnect them. For a wired keyboard and mouse, unplug the cable from your PS5 and plug it back in. You can also try using a different USB port to rule out any issues with your current port.

If you face issues with a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard, you can unpair and pair it again. Here are the steps for the same.

1. On your PS5 home screen, select the gear icon in the top-right corner.

Open Settings on PS5

2. Scroll down to select Accessories.

3. Go to General > Bluetooth Accessories.

Bluetooth Accessories on PS5

4. Select your keyboard or mouse from the list and choose Delete.

Unpair Bluetooth Keyboard From PS5

5. Select OK to confirm.

6. Put your keyboard or mouse into pairing mode, wait for the console to detect it, and select it from the Accessories found section.

7. Select OK to pair the device and then try using it.

Connect Bluetooth Keyboard With PS5

While almost all keyboards and mice are compatible with the PS5, some models may experience compatibility issues. You may visit this Reddit thread to check if others have reported facing issues while using a specific keyboard or mouse with their PS5.

2. Ensure Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Have Enough Charge

Another reason why your keyboard and mouse may not work on your PS5 is if the battery is low or completely depleted. Try replacing or recharging the batteries in your keyboard and mouse and see if that helps. Additionally, you can test your keyboard and mouse with a computer to ensure they are working properly.

3. Enable BIOS Mode on Corsair Keyboard

Struggling to get the Corsair keyboard to work with your PS5? If so, you may need to enable BIOS mode on your keyboard. This essentially makes the keyboard compatible with a wide range of systems, including the PS5.

Several users on a Reddit thread fix the issue by enabling BIOS mode on their Corsair keyboards. To do the same, connect your keyboard to your PS5 and then press and hold the Windows lock key and the F1 key for five seconds. If your keyboard does not have a Windows lock key, hold down the S key and B key for three seconds.

Put Corsair Keyboard Into BIOS Mode

Once you enter the BIOS mode in your Corsair keyboard, your PS5 should detect it almost instantly.

4. Ensure Your Game Supports Keyboard and Mouse Input

While your PS5 console supports a keyboard and mouse, it’s important to note that not all PS5 and PS4 games support them. If your keyboard and mouse are not working only in a specific game, it’s likely that the developer has not included support for those devices.

Try testing the keyboard and mouse input on games like The Sims 4 or Roblox and see if they work. If they do, there may be nothing wrong with your PS5 or your keyboard and mouse.

5. Enable Keyboard and Mouse Input in Your Game

If your keyboard and mouse don’t work despite your game supporting it, you can try checking the set input method. For example, if you’re playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, you may need to visit its settings to change the input method to keyboard and mouse.

Enable Keyboard and Mouse Input in Call of Duty

Similarly, you can change input in other games as well. Following that, you should be able to play the game without the controller.

Precision at Your Fingertips

Using a keyboard and mouse with your PS5 combines the accuracy of conventional PC controls with the convenience and accessibility of console gaming. While you might encounter occasional challenges when using these peripherals with your PS5, the tips mentioned above can help you resolve them.

4 Ways to Type on Apple Vision Pro

Apple Vision Pro lets you make documents, play games, browse the internet, and many more. However, it does not come with any controller that lets you control or even type when using the headset. Nonetheless, there are multiple ways for you to type when using Apple Vision Pro. In this article, we will explore all the ways to type on Apple Vision Pro and our experience using each method.

1. Look and Pinch Gesture

The prominent way to interact with the Apple Vision Pro is the look and pinch gesture. You can look at any item that you want to select, and then pinch to select it. Similarly, you can do the same for typing too. As soon as you place your cursor on any text area on any window, it will open the virtual keyboard that you can use to type. Just like how you control the Vision Pro with the pinch gesture, you can also use it for typing. Just look at the button on the virtual keyboard that you want to type and perform the pinch gesture to enter that letter.

Look and pinch on the Apple Vision Pro

Looking at each button and performing the pinch gesture takes a learning curve. Though the eye tracking is good in the Apple Vision Pro, as the keys in the virtual keyboard, and close to each other, it can also be tiring to type longer sentences and paragraphs. In short, this method works great for typing smaller sentences but is unreliable for typing anything longer.

2. Touch Gesture

If the look and pinch gesture is uncomfortable for you, you can move to the traditional way by touching the button you want to type on the virtual keyboard. However, you can touch to type with the index finger (pointing finger) on the virtual keyboard.

Touch the virtual keyboard on Apple Vision pro

Compared with the look and pinch gesture, touch typing on the virtual keyboard is easier. It also does not require a learning curve and helps type faster. However, the major drawback is that it’s a virtual keyboard and also supports only the index fingers.

3. Voice Control

When using the virtual keyboard, voice control is undoubtedly the fastest option available. You can use it to type full sentences, website URLs, or even passwords.

1. Place the cursor where you want to type and select the microphone icon on the virtual keyboard with the look and pinch gesture or the touch gesture.

Voice Control on Apple Vision pro

2. You can start typing using your voice. The voice input option also allows you to use punctuation like full stops and commas.

Typing with the voice on the Apple Vision pro

Voice control is undoubtedly faster compared to the previous two methods. You can rely on voice typing to type paragraphs of text, not just a sentence or two. It also does a good job of typing website URLs, email addresses, or even passwords if you can spell it out. It’s imperfect and can make occasional typos, but the overall experience is good.

4. Physical Keyboard

Connect a Magic keyboard or any third-party Bluetooth keyboard to the Vision Pro. That way, you can type on the Vision Pro like on your Mac. To connect a Bluetooth keyboard to the Vision Pro, open the Settings app from the App menu.

1. On the Settings app, select the Bluetooth option in the sidebar and enable it.

Settings app on the Apple Vision pro

2. Set the Bluetooth keyboard to the pairing mode. The keyboard will appear on the devices list on the Vision Pro. Select the device to connect.

3. When connected, you can start using the Bluetooth keyboard to type on the Vision Pro. Vision Pro also places a virtual bar above your keyboard for text suggestions and voice type options.

Virtual bar on keyboard on Apple Vision pro

4. To select any emojis, select the keyboard icon at the top-right corner in the virtual bar to open the virtual keyboard. Select the emoji icon, and you can select any emoji you want.

Emojis on the Apple Vision pro

Compared to all the ways you can type on the Vision Pro, using the physical keyboard is the best method. It’s accurate, fast, gives you feedback for your clicks, and can type with all the fingers, unlike the virtual keyboard. To select emojis, you can also easily switch to the virtual keyboard in an instance. However, you have to see the physical keyboard through the Vision Pro which can hinder your vision. But overall, using the Physical keyboard is the best solution to type on the Vision Pro.

Type on Apple Vision Pro

If you have to type a sentence or a password, you can choose the look and pinch gesture or the touch gesture with your hands. It gets the work done easier. Typing using voice makes the process even faster with occasional typos. However, if you have to type more than one paragraph, your better choice is to choose a physical keyboard that works amazingly well with the Vision Pro.

Do you know? You can connect your Mac to Apple Vision Pro and use your Mac’s keyboard, trackpad, and mouse to type on the Apple Vision Pro.

17 Best Samsung Keyboard Settings That You Should Know

Samsung Keyboard is one of the best keyboards out there giving tough competition to Gboard and SwiftKey. Just like these two keyboards, the Samsung Keyboard is also loaded with interesting settings that one needs to know to supercharge their experience. But what are those settings? Let’s check the best and cool Samsung Keyboard settings.

1. Change Language Switching Method

If you regularly switch between multiple languages, the Samsung Keyboard provides a setting where you can select which button to use for switching languages.

1. Open the Settings app and go to General Management > Samsung Keyboard Settings. Alternatively, open the Samsung Keyboard and tap on the Settings icon to open the Samsung Keyboard Settings.

2. Tap on Languages and Types followed by Language switching method.

3. Choose the preferred option. You can select between the Language key, Space bar swipe, or use both methods.

2. Create Text Shortcuts for Frequently Used Sentences

Do you find yourself typing the same phrase or even a bunch of sentences quite frequently? Now, you don’t have to do much work as you can create text shortcuts in the Samsung Keyboard app.

Example: Let’s say you type, ‘Hello, how are you doing? How are things?’ frequently. You can create a text shortcut like Heloo and assign it to the phrase. Now, whenever you type, Heloo, the Samsung Keyboard will automatically replace it with the assigned phrase.

Use these steps to create a text shortcut on the Samsung Keyboard:

1. Open the Samsung Keyboard Settings and tap on Text Shortcuts.

2. Tap on the + (Add) icon at the top to create a new shortcut.

3. Enter the phrase in the Expanded phrase text box and the shortcut in the Shortcut field. Tap on Add.

3. Switch Between Different Keyboard Modes

Not everyone is a fan of the standard keyboard mode. You might want to move your keyboard away from the bottom or split the keyboard for easier typing. Thankfully, Samsung Keyboard offers two additional modes – Floating and Split Keyboard.

To switch between keyboard modes in Samsung Keyboard, go to Samsung Keyboard Settings and tap on Mode. Select the preferred mode to make it the default typing mode. If you have a foldable phone, you can select different modes for Main and Cover screens.

Pro Tip: You can switch between different keyboard modes from the Samsung Keyboard toolbar as well. Tap on the three-dot icon on the Samsung Keyboard toolbar and select Floating or Split to activate the desired mode.

4. Change the Size of the Keyboard

Whether you want a small keyboard or a big one, Samsung Keyboard offers both. You can choose the size of the keyboard as per your requirement in keyboard settings.

Open Samsung Keyboard Settings and go to Size and Transparency. Adjust the size of the keyboard as per your needs.

Pro Tip: Use the Keyboard Size option in the toolbar to adjust the size of the Samsung Keyboard without going to settings.

5. Disable the Toolbar on the Keyboard

If the tiny icons present above the keyboard layout are distracting you or don’t find yourself using them, you can get rid of the toolbar. To do that, open the Samsung Keyboard Settings and turn off the toggle next to the Keyboard toolbar.

Pro Tip: Long press and drag the items on the toolbar to rearrange them according to your preference. You can also add items present under the three-dot icon and bring them to the main toolbar.

6. Suggest Emojis and Stickers While Typing

Emojis and stickers have revolutionized the way we chat with others. Earlier, we had to manually search for emojis or stickers but there’s a setting in Samsung Keyboard, which when enabled will auto-suggest stickers and emojis based on the text.

To enable, go to Samsung Keyboard Settings and tap on the toggle next to Suggest Emojis and Suggest stickers while typing. Samsung provides additional settings regarding stickers. You can select which sticker packs to use, where should the keyboard show sticker suggestions, and the apps where the keyboard should suggest stickers.

Tip: Do you want to create stickers from photos on Samsung phones? The steps are actually quite easy if you follow our guide.

7. Enable or Disable Auto Replace for Preferred Languages

Do you want to have auto-correct enabled for one language and disabled for other languages? Samsung Keyboard has a setting for that too. It allows you to keep the auto-replace feature enabled for your preferred languages and the others will stay disabled.

In the Samsung Keyboard Settings, tap on Auto Replace and enable the toggle next to the language for which you want to keep it active.

Pro Tip: Similarly, you can customize other features like Auto Spacing and Text corrections for preferred languages.

8. Enable High Contrast Keyboard

Want a unique-looking keyboard? You should enable the high contrast keyboard in Samsung Keyboard settings. Samsung not only offers 1, 2, or 3 but 4 different color variants.

In the Samsung Keyboard Settings, tap on the High-contrast keyboard text and enable it on the next screen. Then, choose the preferred style.

9. Show Number Row and Alternative Characters on the Keyboard

Samsung Keyboard is among the few keyboards that support a dedicated number row at the top. To enable it, go to Samsung Keyboard Settings and tap on Layout. Enable the toggle next to Number Keys.

Similarly, you can even show alternative characters on each key. These are turned off by default but will work when you long-press a key. However, you should know what alternative characters are associated with each key. To show alternative characters, enable the toggle next to Alternative characters in the Layout settings of Samsung Keyboard.

10. Show or Hide Buttons in the Space Bar Row

Want a bigger spacebar or want to have more buttons in the space bar row? Samsung Keyboard lets you customize the space bar row in its settings. You can show or hide buttons like comma, full stop, .com, and www. The latter two will show up while entering the email address or web address.

Go to Samsung Keyboard Settings > Layout to customize the space bar row options.

11. Customize Quick Access Symbols

In the Samsung Keyboard, you can access some symbols quickly by long pressing the Period (.) key. What makes this even more interesting is that you can customize what symbols should show up there. So you can keep your frequently used symbols there.

Once inside the Samsung Keyboard Settings, tap on Custom Symbols. Then, tap on the symbol you want to change and choose the replacement symbol from the keyboard.

Pro Tip: Generally, the symbol panel will close automatically after entering one symbol. However, you can keep it enabled if you want to enter multiple symbols. Go to Swipe, touch, and Feedback in Keyboard settings and enable the toggle next to Keep symbol panel open.

12. Change What Happens by Swiping on the Keyboard
