Google Chrome to Get Split Screen Feature Similar to Edge and Arc Browsers

Split screen is a dream feature for people who like multitasking. Most desktop operating systems support it now including Windows, Mac, Linux, and even ChromeOS. However, the native feature can be finicky sometimes, especially on macOS (no keyboard shortcuts). Google Chrome’s native Windows manager should come as a relief.

Google is working on a new split-screen feature on Chrome to simplify this. Currently available in the Chrome Canary beta version 134. This feature lets you place two tabs next to each other in the same window, allowing for better multitasking and easier browsing. No more manually dragging windows around or constantly switching between tabs.

This feature was first discovered by Leopeva64, a known tech enthusiast who explores browser updates. Initially, it appeared in Chrome’s menu as “Split tab with active tab” but was later renamed to “Show side-by-side.” The name may have changed, but the functionality remains the same. With just a right-click on a tab, you can split it with another tab, and both will appear in a single window with a divider in the middle. You can move the divider to adjust how much space each tab takes.

Imagine researching a topic on one side while writing notes on the other, or comparing two products without flipping back and forth between tabs. Laptop users, in particular, will benefit from this as it makes multitasking easier on smaller screens.

This isn’t the first time a browser getting a split-screen feature. Microsoft Edge, Opera, Arc, and Vivaldi already have a similar feature. Some rumors even suggest Brave is also working on a similar split-screen feature. In fact, this has been the major reason for me to use the Arc browser for research purposes. Now I am glad that Chrome itself will be able to compensate.

However, there is one notable difference between the browser vs OS split screen feature. Chrome’s split screen will work only in Chrome browser while Windows or macOS split screen works for all apps.

While it’s still in development, Google has already updated the feature twice, adding improvements to how tabs are resized. Right now, the resizing handle is not fully functional, but the plan is to make it work seamlessly so users can fine-tune their split view. Since it’s part of Chrome Canary, the feature is not yet available to regular users, but given the frequent updates, it could roll out in a future Chrome release soon.

Chrome has been focusing on improving productivity with new features like tab grouping, reading mode, and now, split-screen functionality, and this split-screen tool fits right in.

While there’s no official release date yet, the fact that Google is actively improving it suggests it won’t be long before everyone can use it. Until then, if you’re curious, you can try it out in Chrome Canary, though keep in mind that experimental features may not always work perfectly.

How to Save App Pairs (Split-screen Apps Shortcut) on Android

Google recently released Android 15 with several new and improved features. One notable feature is the ability to save split-screen apps as a shortcut on the home screen. It is called App Pairs and you can create as many app pairs as you want. For example, I like to use the calculator alongside my expense tracker to know how I am wasting my money quickly.

Samsung first introduced the option to save app pairs with Android 14, and now Google has caught up with Android 15. In this article, we’ll show you how to create app pair shortcuts, whether you’re on Samsung or other Android phones.

Save App Pairs on Samsung (Android 14 or above)

Samsung has made it incredibly simple to create and save app pairs on smartphones running Android 14 or later. To save the app pair, you must open those apps in split-screen mode.

  1. Open the first app that you want to save in the app pair.
  2. Go to the Recent Apps menu, tap the app’s icon at the top, and select Open in split-screen view.
  3. When prompted, select the second app from Recent Apps or the app drawer.
  4. Once both apps are in split-screen view, tap the three dots between them, select Star, and choose Home Screen to save the app pair.

That’s it, your pair will be placed on the home screen. On Samsung Fold phones, you can even create app pairs with 3 apps in the similar way.

Save App Pairs on Android Natively (Android 15 or above)

Google has baked the feature into Android 15 making app pairs accessible on phones from different OEMs.

  1. Open both apps you want to use in the app pair one after another.
  2. Go to the Recent Apps menu, tap the app’s icon at the top for the app you want to place at the top in split screen, and select Split screen.
  3. When prompted, select the second app from your recent apps.
  4. Once both apps are in split-screen view, open the Recent Apps menu again, tap one of the app icons at the top, and select Save app pair.

The app pair is saved on the home screen and you can move it to any place you want.

What If You Are Running Older Versions?

There is no way to create a split-screen app pair if your Android phone is running an older version of Android. While there are many third-party apps like split-screen shortcuts, they do not work anymore.

Android Bubbles Are About to Get More Useful With 2 New Features

Google is about to make Android bubbles significantly more useful. For those unfamiliar, chat bubbles are floating icons that allow you to access conversations without switching apps, similar to Facebook Messenger’s chat heads. Until now, these bubbles have mostly been limited to messaging apps, but that is about to change.

Since introducing chat bubbles in Android 11, Google has been relatively quiet about expanding the feature, keeping it limited to messaging apps. But now, thanks to multiple beta versions and APK teardowns conducted by people at Android Authority, we have insight into Google’s plans for a major upgrade, with not one but two significant improvements on the way.

Bubble Anything Feature

The new “bubble anything” feature will allow you to put any app in a floating bubble. This means that, apart from using apps in split-screen mode or picture-in-picture (PiP) mode, you will now have another multitasking option on Android.

Discovered by developers within Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2, this feature adds a “bubble” button to the app context menu. Once enabled, it will let you open any app you choose in a floating bubble, whether it’s Firefox, YouTube, or anything else. Imagine browsing on Chrome while your calendar and notes apps float neatly in bubbles.

This feature could be a huge boost to productivity on Android phones, making multitasking more fluid and allowing users to quickly access key apps without leaving their current activity.

Bubble Bar Feature for Tablets

For larger screen devices like tablets, Google is introducing a new Bubble Bar feature. If you’ve tried using chat bubbles on a big Android tablet, you know it’s not the most ergonomic experience. Currently, bubbles are anchored to the side of the screen, making them a stretch to reach on larger displays.

To address this, Google is testing a new “bubble bar” anchored at the bottom right corner. Bubbles will be pinned to this bar when created, and you can swipe up to reveal the active ones, making them much easier to manage. This feature has been in development since early 2023, and it was uncovered by enthusiasts exploring Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1. Though not yet enabled by default, there is hope that it could make it to the stable release of Android 14 QPR3 or even Android 15 later this year.

When Will These Features Be Available?

While “bubble anything” might seem like an Android 16 feature, given its significant impact on multitasking, Google has a history of rolling out substantial updates in quarterly platform releases. So there is a possibility we could see it sooner with Android 15 or even in late Android 14 QPR updates.

A More Fluid and Practical Multitasking Experience

Both of these features represent Google’s attempt to make Android’s multitasking more fluid, intuitive, and practical. By letting users pop any app into a bubble or manage bubbles more easily with the bubble bar, the system is set to become more versatile for both casual and power users.

Whether you’re using your Android phone or a larger tablet, these bubbles could soon become a must-use feature, turning Android into a more multitasking-friendly platform overall.

7 Best Multitasking Features of the Samsung Galaxy Fold Phone

The major advantage of the Galaxy Fold is its big screen that can fit in your pockets. Though that bigger screen offers a better experience while watching videos and playing games, it also helps you when you multitask. With that 7.3-inch internal display, many Android features like split screen make even more sense on the Galaxy Fold. Here are all the multitasking features of the Samsung Galaxy Fold you must know about.

1. Split-Screen Mode

Split-screen is one of the best features of Android, but the screen size of most phones is small. Also, the process of opening a split screen is long and finicky. Both the problems are solved with the Galaxy Fold. There are actually many ways to open the split screen on the Fold.

You can do it the normal way from the recent apps panel. Just tap on the app icon and then tap on the Open in Split-screen view option.

You can also drag the icon from the taskbar to open the app on a split screen.

Another method is to just swipe with two fingers from any of the four edges of the screen to start the split screen view.

Unlike on normal phones, here you can use up to three apps on the split-screen.

2. Pop-up Mode

If using three apps on a split screen isn’t enough for some reason, Galaxy Fold also comes with something called pop-up mode. With this feature, you can open up to 5 apps in small pop-ups. It can be really handy to use when you have those many apps running at the same time in split screen view and pop-up view, but you have the option just in case you need it.

Just like the split screen, you can enable pop-up mode from the recent apps panel. Just tap on the app icon and select Open in pop-up view option.

Also, you can drag the taskbar icon to the middle of the screen to open in the pop-up view.

In the pop-up mode, you can change the transparency, minimize, maximize, and also have the option to open the app on a split-screen.

3. Flex Mode

Flex mode is a welcome feature on the Fold series and is only possible on foldable devices. Your device enters flex mode when the device is closed halfway. Some apps like YouTube, Samsung apps, Google Meet, Camera, and Zoom are optimized for the flex mode and work according to that layout.

With YouTube, you can watch the video in the top half while checking comments in the bottom half. With Camera, you can check the preview at the top half while you get the controls in the bottom half.

4. PiP Mode

Another niche feature of Android is PiP Mode. It automatically activates when you close the app that supports it in the middle of the process. When watching a video on YouTube, when booking a cab on Uber, when ordering food online, and most importantly when checking directions on Google Maps.

5. Taskbar

One feature that you cannot miss is the new taskbar. It makes it easy to open apps, access the app drawer, switch between recent apps, and also provides an option to open apps on a split screen as mentioned above. It is enabled by default.

6. Swipe on Bottom Bar to Switch Between Apps

Another small feature, that always comes in handy is the swipe gesture to the right or left on the bottom bar on the Fold. This gesture will help you switch between your recent apps quickly. So if using split screens and pop-up views are not your cup of tea, this can be even more helpful.

7. Samsung Dex

While all the previous tricks can be used directly on the Fold itself, Dex is a feature where your Fold device needs to be connected to a monitor. Once you connect your phone to the monitor, Dex will help you to use the Galaxy Fold in desktop mode. You can use a keyboard and mouse and also the user interface looks like a desktop. Now you can open as many windows as possible just like on the desktop.

To use Samsung Dex, connect your Fold to a monitor with the HDMI cable and then tap on the Dex notification to start using your Fold in the Dex mode on the big screen.

Unfolded Galaxy Fold

These are some of the best multitasking features of the Galaxy Fold, but there are many other hidden features too that you need to explore. Some of them improve the functionality of existing options like Flex mode and split screen view, while some features take the advantage of the bleeding-edge Fold design.

7 Best Hidden Features of Samsung Galaxy Fold

Foldable phones are still a new genre in tech, but it is gaining traction every year with more and more models entering the market resulting in a larger market share. But among all, Samsung foldable phones stand tall, mainly because of all the software features it offers with One UI. There are many obvious features to mention like flex mode and split screen view that is enabled by default and you already know. But here are some amazing but hidden features of the Samsung Galaxy Fold that you may not know about but should begin using.

1. Force All Apps to Open in Split Screen Mode

A major advantage of the Galaxy Fold is the big screen. Android also supports split-screen mode so that you can use multiple apps at the same time. While the split screen feature is more useful than on many other phones, it doesn’t work with all the apps by default. Some apps like Instagram block the functionality of the split screen. But, OneUI offers you the ability to force the split screen mode on apps that don’t support the feature yet.

1. Open the Settings app and select the Advanced Features option.

2. In Advanced features, select the Labs option. Features in the Labs option are experimental and may contain bugs, but forcing apps on split screen works flawlessly.

Opening Labs in Samsung Settings

3. Now enable the toggle beside the Multi window for all apps.

Multi Window for all apps

That’s it, now you can open all the apps in the split screen view.

2. Save Your Split Screen Apps

You will quickly realize that you are opening the same apps in split screen mode frequently. These are your most used apps. Opening and setting them up every time can be time-consuming and makes it actually hard to use the feature. But using Samsung’s Edge Panel, you can set and save the apps in a split screen view. So that you can launch both the apps at the same time with a single tap and it will maintain the split screen view.

1. First, open Settings > Display and turn on the Edge Panels option.

Display Settings on Galaxy Fold

2. To save, open both apps in split screen mode.

3. Swipe up and hold to open the recent apps page

4. If you open the edge panel now, you should find both the apps added in one folder icon indicating the split screen.

5. Just drag and place it below the line in the Edge panel to save the split screen view of these two apps.

Now you can open the edge panel and tap on that split icon containing both apps to open them together in split screen view.

3. Flex Mode for All Apps

Flex mode is enabled by default but only works for apps that are optimized for the Galaxy Fold. Some apps that work are Samsung apps, Camera, YouTube, Google Meet, Zoom, etc. When the screen is folded halfway, your device enters Flex mode. It helps these apps to display content accordingly. For example, on YouTube, you can watch the video on the top half of the display while you can check comments on the bottom half. When using the camera, you can check the preview on the top half and use the bottom half for controls, etc. Though this feature works only for a few apps, you can force other apps to work. To do so:

1. Open the Settings app on your Fold and select the Advanced features option in it. Then select the Labs option inside it.

Opening Labs in Samsung Fold Settiungs

2. Now scroll down and select the Flex mode panel option.

Flex Mode Panel

3. Here you should find a list of all the apps that you have installed. To make them work in flex mode, just enable the toggle beside them.

Enabling Apps in Flex Mode Panel

Go back and open the app that you have enabled in flex mode. Fold your device halfway to enter the flex mode. Now you can see the app on the top half and controls on the bottom half. With the below controls, you can take screenshots, adjust brightness and volume, media playback, and also a touchpad to control the app with a cursor.

4. Remove Taskbar or Hide it

The taskbar is a new addition OneUI 5 update and can be handy when needed. But note that it takes up space on your device constantly. You can choose to disable it completely or hide it so that you can access it when needed.

1. Open the Settings app, then Display and turn off the toggle beside the Taskbar option to remove it completely.

2. Otherwise, tap on it to open, then enable the toggle beside Show and hide with touch and hold.

Now simply long press on the taskbar to hide it, then press and hold again at the bottom of the screen to view the taskbar.

Pro Tip: If you don’t like seeing recent apps in the taskbar, disable the toggle beside Show recent apps option in the same settings menu above.

5. Cover Screen Mirroring

By default, the apps and widgets you place on the home screen are completely different between the outer cover screen and the inner folding screen on Galaxy Fold 4. So you can keep an app on the home screen on the outer display and choose not to do the same on the inner display. However, if you are like me and prefer consistency between both displays, then you can enable Cover Screen Mirroring.

1. To enable cover screen mirroring on Galaxy Fold 4, long press on the home screen and select the Settings option at the bottom.

Opening Home Screen Settings

2. Here select the Cover screen mirroring option.

Cover Screen Mirroring

3. On the next page, select On and then tap Apply to save changes.

Turning on Cover Screen Mirroring on Galaxy Fold

This will apply your cover screen (outer display) app layout to your inner display. But, you cannot make it sync the other way around. Also, you won’t lose your inner display layout. You can always open the settings and turn off the Cover screen mirroring option to get back to your old layout.

6. Use Cover Screen as Preview in Camera

When you are taking a photo or recording a video on the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4, you can access the camera controls on both displays depending on how you are holding it. However, if you are using the inner display, you can take advantage of the outer display by showing the preview. So when you are taking a photo of someone, they can check their look using the other camera.

Cover Screen Preview on

When you are recording or taking a photo, just tap on the preview toggle at the top. Your outer display will start showing the preview.

7. Use the Main Camera for Selfies

The selfie camera for the inner display on Fold 3 and Fold 4 aren’t that good because of the under-display camera.

We can take the previous method a step further. When you are using the outer display as a preview, turn the phone and tap on the Selfie option on the outer display. It will provide all the needed controls on the cover display itself.

That way, you can use the rear cameras and take a selfie using the outer display as a preview.

8. Use Fold-Specific S-Pen

The normal S-Pen that comes with Note phones and Samsung Tablets does not work with Galaxy Fold because of its plastic display. But you can get a Fold edition S-pen or the S-Pen pro that is sold separately, it works similarly to the normal S-Pen. Note that only S-Pro supports hand gestures. Along with the S-Pen, Samsung also sells a case designed to carry S-Pen along with the Fold.

To set up, just click on the Connect button on the S-Pen until you see the LED blinking. Now you should get a pop-up on your Fold. Just tap on the Connect button to connect the two devices.

We Are Not Done Yet

We have listed some of the best Galaxy Fold features that many people aren’t using. Make the most of your Fold device. But apart from these features, Fold is most used as a multi-tasking machine. Check out all multi-tasking features Fold supports.

2. Put Apps in Split Screen Mode From Edge Panel

If you use the Samsung’s Edge panel, you can drag and drop the app from the panel to put it in split-screen view as shown below:

1. Put the first app in the split-screen view from the Recents screen as shown above.

2. Then, open the Edge panel.

3. Drag the app icon from the Edge panel to the top or bottom of the screen. It will open in split-screen view with the app that you opened in step 1.

3. Reorder Apps

Typically, the apps are arranged in the split-screen view in the order that they were opened. That doesn’t mean you cannot reorder them later. It’s quite easy to move them up or down. For that, tap on the three-dot icon present between the two app panels. Press the two arrow (up and down) symbol to change their position.

4. Change Size of App Panels

By default, both app panels will occupy equal real estate on the screen. If you want, you can increase or decrease their size to suit your requirements.

To do so, touch and hold the three-dot icon between the two apps and drag it up or down to change the size of the apps. You will need to drag it downwards to increase the size of the top app and move it upwards for increasing the size of the app in the bottom panel.

5. Turn off Split Screen View

If you want to use just one app, you can get rid of the split-screen view. There are four ways to do so.

1. Using Back

When in the split-screen mode, make the app panel active that you want to close by tapping on it. Then press the Back key or use the swipe gesture for the back. This will close the app panel and the other app will take over the entire display. Please note that this method will work only if you are on the home screen of that app. Otherwise, you would need to press back multiple times.

2. By Changing Size

Another way to quit split-screen mode is to increase the size of the required app to the fullest. That will automatically close the second app. What you need to do is drag the divider (three-dot icon) between the two apps to the extreme top or bottom depending on which app you want to retain. That will hide the other app.

3. Using Maximize Button

Press the Grey/Blue bar present at the top-center of the app that you want to continue using. Hit the double-sided arrow to maximize the current app. Doing so will close the second app.

4. Using Close Button

This method is the opposite of using the Maximize button. Basically, tap on the grey/blue bar on the app that you want to close. Press the X icon to close the app and maximize the other app.

Alternatively, simply go to the home screen and remove the app pair from the Recents screen.

6. Launch Two Apps in Split Screen Automatically

What if you use two apps simultaneously quite frequently? The default behavior would be to put two apps in split-screen view manually each time. You don’t need to do so, thanks to the App pairs feature present in the Edge panel.

With App pair, you can link two apps so that they launch automatically in split-screen view whenever you tap on the app pair icon.

To use this feature, follow these steps:

1. First, you need to enable the Edge panel. For that, go to Settings > Display > Edge panels. Turn it on. Learn more about how to use and customize the Edge panel.

2. Open the two desired apps in split-screen view.

3. Tap on the three-dot icon between the two apps and hit the App pair icon (two windows with plus sign). That will create the app pair.

How to Watch Multiple Twitch Streams on Web and Mobile

Twitch provides access to different ways to stream content like from gameplay to chat sessions. But if more than one of your favorite streamers are streaming at the same time, it will be hard to decide which one to let go of. You also cannot watch these streams later unless the streamer enabled it in the settings manually. Moreover, Twitch streamers often partner up and stream together, so watching the stream from both ends is an even better experience. So, here’s every way you watch multiple Twitch streams on the web, Android, and iOS.

How to Watch Multiple Twitch Streams on Web, Android and iOS

Twitch itself provides you with a native option that works on all the platforms called Squad Stream.

Squad Stream (Works on Web and Mobile Apps)

Oftentimes, steamers partner up and stream together at the same time. In that case, they can enable the Squad Stream option which will allow viewers to watch the streamers together in a split window setup. This option is available on all platforms. When you are watching a stream that supports it, just click on the Squad Stream button below the streaming video to start watching in Squad Stream.

Squad Stream option on Twitch to Stream with multiple streamers

There are multiple downsides to this method though. This feature has to be enabled by the streamer. If not, viewers cannot watch it in Squad Stream mode. Also, you cannot just select the channels but instead, the streamer will enable the feature and provide channels so that you can stream them together. Also, it only supports up to 4 streams to watch together.

TwitchTheater.TV (Works on Web)

If the native option is unavailable, your best bet is TwitchTheatre.TV. Among all third-party multi Twitch streaming services, it comes on top for the modern and ad-free UI, customization support, and ability to watch more than 8 streams together. The process is simple.

Copy the link of the stream that you want to watch and paste it in the Streams and videos option in the right sidebar and click on the + icon beside it. It will start showing the preview of the stream. Continue the process for the other streams that you want to watch together.

The service provides various options like muting, hiding, full-screen, pausing, pinning specific streams, etc. Also, you will get native Twitch player options here from changing stream quality to using keyboard shortcuts. The options go even deeper as you can add the stream without the chat or add only the chat if you need to.

Nonetheless, this app can only show you one chat box at a time. So if you engage with the chat option more often, Twitch Theatre can be quite frustrating to use as you need to change the chat over and over again.

Multistre.am (Works on Web)

While everything works great on TwitchTheater.TV, when it comes to chatting, you can only access one chat at a time. To use chat from another stream, you need to click on the streamer’s name above the chatbox and select another stream to open that stream’s chat. This not only takes time but there is also no way to check multiple chats at the same time.

MultiStre.am to stream multiple Twitch Streams with their chat boxes

Here comes Multistre.am which supports up to 8 streams and allows viewing all 8 chats at the same time. You can also customize the layout if you want. Pin the chat you mostly engage with. As iOS doesn’t have any specific app to watch multiple streams at once, you can open this in the browser as it is also optimized for the phone view and automatically adjusts the layout.

Split Stream (Works on Web)

Split Stream allows watching up to 8 streams which is a great option for phones. All you need to do is open Twitch stream, click on the Share button which displays an option to copy the stream link. Now open the Split Stream app and paste the link. Once you have added all the streamers that you want to watch, click on the Watch stream button to start streaming. The app has settings to change the volume for each stream, hide streams, etc. which makes the experience better.

The app doesn’t show you chat anywhere because of the phone’s small screen real estate. But you can open any stream on the Twitch app, so you can switch to any stream and chat if you need to.

Wrapping Up – Watch Multiple Twitch Streams at Once

While the native Squad stream feature is great, it has its shortcomings as it has to be enabled by the streamer. But with third-party apps like Twitch Theater, you can add any stream or any chat. If you are more into chats, then you can prefer Multistre.am. For Android, the Split stream is gonna work wonders for up to 8 streams at once if you needed.

How to Use iPadOS 15 Split Screen Multitasking Features

In addition to home screen widgets and Quick notes in iPadOS 15, Apple has made multitasking intuitive and much easier to use as compared to the earlier builds of iPadOS. Now, one would actually use multitasking modes on the iPad with better organization. You can put apps in Split-screen and Slide-over view and access them in interesting ways. Let’s see how to use new multitasking features in iPadOS 15 with the tips and hidden features mentioned here.

What Changed for Multitasking in iPadOS 15?

Earlier, one could only choose the apps available in the Dock for multitasking on iPad. Now you can choose any app available on your home screen or in the App library and put it either in Split-screen view or Slide-over mode.

Further, in iPadOS 14, one could use multiple apps only using drag and drop gesture from the Dock. While that works in iPadOS 15 as well, you will now find a new three-dot icon in the center of the currently active window that helps in multitasking. Moreover, some apps such as Mail also let you initiate a center floating window.

Let’s see in detail how to use multitasking in iPadOS 15 followed by some tips.

How to Put Apps in Multitasking Mode

There are two ways (old and new) to use multitasking mode on iPad.

New Way to Use Multitasking in iPad

In the new method, you can enter multitasking mode from its menu present at the top of the apps. Open any app on your iPad. Tap on the three-dot icon in the center of the window. You will be greeted by three options – Slide over, Split screen view, and Fullscreen.

They are the same modes that were present in iPadOS 14. Here’s a brief overview of the three options:

  • The first icon from the right puts the current app in Slide over mode and lets you choose a base app by opening the home screen. When you put an app in Slide-over view, it floats on top of the base app in an iPhone-sized pane. You can hide the pane by swiping it towards the left or right edge. The pane can be accessed anytime by swiping in from the edge towards the screen. You can have multiple apps in Slide-over view.
  • The second or the middle icon will put the current app in the Split screen view. And you will be asked to choose another app for split screen multitasking mode. This mode lets you view two apps simultaneously. You can adjust the size of each window in this view.
  • When multiple apps are open on the screen, tapping on the last or the third icon puts the current app in full screen view.

The same modes can be enabled using gestures too (shown next) as present in iPadOS 14.

Old Way to Use Multitasking in iPad

Open any app on your iPad. Then launch the Dock by slightly swiping up from the bottom edge. Touch and hold the app that you want to use in Split or Slide-over view. To put an app in Split-screen mode, drag the app either towards the right or left edge of the screen. You will see that the screen splits up letting you put the app over there.

After putting the apps in Split-screen view using one of the two methods mentioned above, use the bar/handle in the center of the middle area that separates the two apps to adjust their size. Slide the bar towards the right or left edge to increase or decrease the size of the app windows. Move the handle completely towards an edge to close one of the apps or to exit the Split screen on the iPad.

To swap apps in Split screen view i.e., move the left app to the right side or vice versa, simply drag the app window using the three-dot icon at the top to the other edge.

How to Use iPadOS 15 Slide Over View

As described above, the apps in Slide over view stay on top of the main app or two apps when using Split-screen view. To rotate between the apps present in Slide over view, swipe right or left repeatedly on the bar/handle at the bottom of the Slide over app.

To view all the apps open in Slide-over view, touch and drag the handle present at the bottom of the Slide-over app upwards. Release the handle and all the Slide over apps that are open will spread out.

When the apps spread out, swipe up on any app to remove it from the Slide-over view. Tap on an app to bring the focus to it in the Slide-over view.

How to Use Multitasking Feature in App Switcher

Apart from being able to view recently opened apps in App Switcher, you can view all the instances of apps open in Split and Slide-over view in it. Basically, you will now get a full view of all the apps open on your iPad in App Switcher– be it in the normal mode, Split, or Slide-over view.

Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen towards the middle to open App Switcher or press the Home button twice. Here you will find apps that are coupled together in Split-screen view. Slightly swipe left to reveal all the app instances open in Slide-over view.

You can put apps in Split-screen view from App Switcher as well. For that, touch and hold an app window to select it. Then drag and drop it on another recently opened app to put both of them in the Split screen view.

Similarly, you can change an app from Slide-over view to Split-screen view by dragging the app window on top of any recently opened app in App Switcher. Further, touch and drag the apps in the Slide-over view to change their order.

Interestingly, in iPadOS 15, the apps remember their pairing of Split view. For instance, if you were using App Store and Safari browser in Split screen mode, and you press the Home button or open another app, tapping again on App Store or Safari icon anytime later will automatically open both the apps in Split screen view.

Use Shelves for Multitasking in iPad

You can easily multitask with multiple windows of the same app in iPadOS 15. Apple calls the feature as Shelf where you can use and switch between multiple instances of the same app besides other apps. Apps like Safari and Pages support this feature.

There are five ways to view all the open windows of the same app.

1. Tap on the three-dot (multitasking) icon in the app. The app windows will appear at the bottom.

Bonus Tips to Multitask in iPadOS

1. Open More Than Two Apps in Multitasking Mode

Interestingly, you can open three or four apps in multitasking mode on your iPad. You can have two apps in Split-screen view and another app in Slide-over view. To put it in perspective, you can use three apps simultaneously on your iPad. For the third app, drag it from the Dock.

Moreover, if you are watching a video in an app that supports Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, you can minimize the video and thus be able to have four apps on the same screen.

2. Use Cross-App Drag and Drop

iPadOS 15 also lets you drag and drop text and files between apps. While the feature works between any two apps, it comes in handy while multitasking as well. Let’s say you want to drag text or image from the base app to an app in Slide-over view. For that, first, select the required text or image. Then touch and drag it slightly upwards. You will notice that the selected data also moves. Without leaving the selected data, move and dump it in the app in Slide-over view. Similarly, you can use this feature between apps in Split screen view as well.

3. Use iPadOS 15 Multitasking Features With Keyboard

The new multitasking mode on the iPad works with keyboard shortcuts as well. Press and hold the Command key on your keyboard to see the list of the available shortcuts. Here are some of the multitasking keyboard shortcuts that you can use:

  • App Switcher: Globe icon + Up arrow
  • Next app: Globe icon + Left arrow
  • Previous app: Globe icon + Right arrow

Wrap Up: Multitasking on iPadOS 15

As you saw above, iPadOS 15 has made it super easy to multitask on the iPad. You can multitask between different apps and the same app as well. You will need to teach your brain how to use all the multitasking features present in the iPad. Once you remember everything, you will love the experience.
